Move-In Complete? Here’s Some Extra Inspiration

A student wearing "Minnesota" sweatpants and a marron cap is lying on grass, relaxing in the sun with their eyes closed.

Whether you're on your way home or still soaking in those first moments on campus, welcome again to the Gopher Family! Move-In can be an emotional mix of pride, excitement, and a few tears—and that's completely normal.

To help you and your student feel grounded and hopeful during this big transition, here’s more heartfelt advice shared by current students and recent grads. These are words they wish someone had told them when they first arrived:

  • “It’s okay to feel nervous—everyone does. Keep showing up, say hello first, and your people will find you.”
  • “Leave your dorm door open, go to events, and join a club even if you don’t know anyone yet. It’s the fastest way to feel at home.”
  • “Don’t stress about having everything figured out. College is about learning who you are, not just what you study.”
  • “Get out of your comfort zone. Try a new class, explore the city, say yes to that invite—even if it feels a little scary.”
  • “Give it time. Friendships, confidence, and a sense of belonging don’t come all at once—but they do come.”

This community is filled with kindness, encouragement, and Gopher Pride. Your student is not alone, and neither are you.

We’re so glad you and your student are here!
